Welcome to Week 2 of the It’s Never Too Late series here on HSR. If you missed the introduction post or Week 1, you can find them both under the Inspiration tab. If you’re new to the series, the Introduction is a good place to start. It covers what the series is about and what you can expect. Week 1 we talked about starting over and this week we’re talking about chasing our dreams.

Its Never Too Late Week 2

It’s Never Too Late  to Chase Your Dreams

We all have those dreams that we keep locked away in the back of our mind and in the corner of our hearts. Maybe we keep these dreams secret because we’re scared of what others might think of us if they knew what our secret desires were. Or maybe we think our dream is so unattainable there is no point in sharing it. Or just maybe we keep these dreams secret so we don’t have to be accountable for taking action on them. There could be a million different reasons why we don’t share our deepest, darkest desires and today we’re going to change that!

Dreams Come True I John Updike

You can chase your dreams. Did you hear what I said? Let me repeat it. YOU can chase your dreams! You can do anything. The power is inside you to make this happen, to make your dreams come true, and it always has been. People do it every.single.day. And what makes them special? Absolutely nothing. They don’t want it more than you. They’re not privileged (except for a select few). So how do these people we wish we could be like make it happen? They work for it and they work hard for it!

7 Steps To Make Your Dreams Come True

Step 1. Be clear on what your dream is. Maybe you need to think about it or hone in on it, but most likely you know exactly what it is. Don’t just think it, write it down. Put it somewhere you can see it every day. Speak it to others. Tell someone you love and trust. It makes things real!
Step 2. Decide right here, right now that you will make this dream come true. Commit to it. Promise yourself that nothing or no one will hold you back. And trust me people (unknowingly and on purpose) will tell you that you can’t do it. Some might laugh and others might judge. SCREW those people. You don’t need those kinds of people in your life. They’re the kinds of people that don’t go anywhere and do anything with their lifes. (Heads up: If you have people like that in your life, we’re going to cover that next week!)
Step 3. Push your fears aside. Your fears and doubts are going to creep in before you even get started. They’re going to tell you that you can’t do it, it’s too hard. They’ll try and make you think that things like that don’t don’t happen to people like you. One of the best ways of doing that is research. Get answers to all of your questions. Get a game plan in place. What’s your first step?
Step 4. Commit to working for it. Like I said before, this is going to take work. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. It will fill you with a sense of satisfaction you’ve never experienced before. You will realize that you are stronger than you ever imagined. If you find something blocking your way, figure out how to get past it. There will always be an obstacle that pops up and what will make you successful is overcoming that hurdle.
Step 5. Find Inspiration. Surround yourself with positive people that life you up. If you can surround yourself with like-minded people or people that have the same/similar dreams that’s even better. You need a support group that you can turn to when times get tough that will encourage you, give you advice, or even lend a helping hand. Read memoirs written by successful people you admire. They’re usually full of good advice and it’s help to see where they started and what it took for them to make it.
Step 6. Learn from your failures. Don’t beat yourself up if/when you fail and don’t be ashamed to fail. Failure is nothing more than an opportunity to learn and grow! It is not a reason to quit. Don’t give up before you have an opportunity to succeed just because you stumbled.
Step 7. Don’t backslide. Keep moving forward. You’ve got a dream, a plan, and you won’t take no for an answer. If you don’t succeed the first time, try, try again!

  1. This is so what I needed right now. Starting my own business is scary, but it’s just what I am passionate about! Great post 🙂 Very inspiring!

  2. That is absolutely right, it is never too late to follow a dream, but sometimes we only remember that we’ve dreamt of something, and if we truly ask ourselves if we still dream about that, the answer might not always be yes. Staying true to yourself is very important!
